Has anyone done this, does it require any metal work done to the tunnel to create more space for the transmission? Or will it work fine as it is?

Another option. If you subscribe to Mustang Monthly, there was an article in the September 2016 issue about the Modern Driveline's TKO 5 speed conversion. What got my attention was that they make a low profile version that will fit the trans tunnel without ANY modification for '67-'73. (Ok in the text it refers to 67-70, but in the title, it's 67-73) ???
OK, it's a 5 speed, not a 6, but I would definitely look at this option if it were me. Something to consider as an option for sure. I have a buddy swapping a 6 speed into a 71 Mach with a 429... it's a lot of work and expensive, according to him!!

Thanks for that information too, I still decide to go with the T56, I have allready bought one.. If the tunnel needs any modification I will do it, it's not the worst part compared to all the other mods I am doing to the car
