I've had quite an interesting weekend w/ mustangs so far,lol

FRIDAY

Came home (since I no longer live at home where the mach is) to take it to a monthly mix car/plane static event put on by the san diego AG-1 wing of the commemorative air force (which I used to be a part of back in HS/College) and the cafe at gillespie field in El Cajon,CA.

While the event had been aircraft only, they had started to try and incorporate cars into the display, so they reached out to a member of my club who had somehow gotten his car in there last month. So this month they wanted a few more to mix in w/ the planes.

So they got about 5-6 stangs from the club...and one corvette that someobody they knew owned, lol

IMG_0384.jpg

While they had planned to mix the cars up w/ the planes a bit, 1-2 of the planes supposed to show, never did so we ended up stuck in a row along the fence near the tower. Which wasn't an ideal place to put us cause I had really been looking forward to getting some great shots of my car w/ planes. But there was a nice consolation prize, lol

My friend Bailey.....

IMG_0470.jpg

She's a girl I've come to know through the fly-days events and CAF that has become something like their official mascot/spokes model. She does a lot of retro/pin-up modelling and is really into aviation and all things 30-40's. So she does a lot of appearances and promotions for them and always comes down to this event when she can.

She was here last month posing on some of the planes. So of course I'd wanted to get her to pose w/ the mustang for a long time, and finally did. Though while the background wasn't quite what I had pictured she looked great regardless, and sorta saved the event for me in a way....since those other planes never did show up.

SATURDAY

Saturday was a bad news/good news kinda day.....cause my dad (who legally owns the mach 1) has been having a hard time taking care of the mach since I moved out a couple of months ago. And while the car is in almost perfect mechanical condition, he just doesn't have the time or the interest needed to want to put the money in to keeping it in top show condition anymore.

So a few weeks ago before he went on a biz trip he mentioned the idea of maybe selling the mach and (and possibly my mini DD) and getting a fox body that would be (in his logic) a lot easier to take care of than the mach and could also be something I could eventually keep (so I could still be a part of my mustang club and have something to show).

So I started looking on craigslist for one (sorta half-serious since I didn't know how serious my dad was about it) And wasn't really finding anything past a few verts and some seriously dragged out coupes. But came across a 91 LX hatch that looked just about all original, basically had had 1 owner from new (not counting the guy who bought it to sell again) w/ about 120k on it.

My dad contacted the guy to ask about it a bit, but then basically sat on it for 2 weeks while my he went out of town on a biz trip. But came back yesterday (having to deal w/ the nightmare at LAX after the shooting). But got home while I was out....and for a completely unexpected reason suddenly started talking about that 91 mustang I had found, and contacted the guy to see if he still had it.

HE DID, so amazingly we actually went to look at it this morning, and after a quick once over, a short test drive (and to my amazement, lol) bought it right there! My dad drove it most of the way home and said it drove great on the highway, I got to drive it a little after stopping for lunch and swapping cars...and I noticed that straight away, just like w/ the mach I could not stop smiling listening to that solid V8 rumble.

Though I didn't get to drive it far as my dad did, since we stopped for lunch close to home, I know there'll be plenty of time to drive it later on as we fix it up a bit.

So I've got something to look forward to now, even w/ the kinda sad news that the mach may go

BTW for some more good news (and thanks for reading all that, here's another pic of Bailey, lol

James Don't get me wrong, I love my Fox Body. But I would not sell the Mach 1. That's one sweet car. I can tell you rite now you wont get the thumbs up in the fox like I'm sure you get in the Mach. As for a DD the fox will make a better DD.

I spent a good part of the day sanding the inside and door frame on my pass door. What a bitch it was to stick my arm in the door to scrape and sand. But well worth it. The little surface rust it had cleaned up very well. Up next to strip and sand the door skin.

Finished the fold down rear seat yesterday and worked on recovering the front seat bottoms today. After the new foam and figuring I'm going to have to stretch these to Florida, :dodgy: I figured todays 62 deg and windy wouldn't be the best day to try it. Their calling for mid 70's and sunny tomorrow. Wonder if my wife would mind me using the oven on warm?

New Rims and tires for the old girl!
She's a good look all 'round Ken! Gives the Mustang a smart, masculine, some what agressive look with that stance as well i think.

What width would the rims be, and what brand and size are the tires, you chose ?

Also, try to kep the chrome finish as clean and polished as you can, because i had brake dust issues that ate into my chrome finish within one year from new, and started to cause surface rusting with my chrome finish.

After each ride, i now give the four rims a quick go over with a soft household duster to help with the brake dust corrosion prob.

Greg.:)
Hi Greg,

The tires came off of a 2006 Mustang GT, I bought the GT rims for the Bullitt about 2 years ago to use with my snow tires, so I had the tires that came with the rims sitting around.

The tires were brand new and the size on them is 235/55/17

I believe the rims are just regular 7" width too be honest I can't remember as I ordered them ages ago.

Didn't really touch the car, but I bought some 3M Sound deadener panels from O'Rielly.

Now I have my headliner insulation so I may try to do the headliner this weekend. Any good advice or cautions? Should I mask off all paint before using the spray adhesive, or does it stay under control when spraying?

Thanks for the feedback Ken.

BTW - What's your opinion on the sitting height of your rear spoiler?

In other words, do you feel it's sitting high, or is that the look you are chasing or happy with? Just curious.

Greg,

To be honest there are days where I really like the height of the spoiler, and there are days that I don't.

I will say that overall I prefer the 71-73 pedestals and if I happen to find a set I will change it over.

Cheers

You need more pics of Bailey with the mach especially if it get's put up for sale

Loaded it in a trailer and watched it roll down the road. :-(
Heading for winter storage I hope??
Yeah, we sold our house and it will spend the winter in the trailer at a friends house. We're moving to an apartment short term while we figure out where to go next. It looks like the planned projects are on hold until I get another shop.

I finished stripping reuseable parts off the carcass of my 73 Coupe. It had caught fire and burned while I was replacing floor pans back in July. I put it off as long as possible, because I really didn't want to let it go, but I needed to make it happen. Now it's done. Tomorrow, I'll call the recycler and the rusted and burned out shell will go to the crusher. :(

Glad to hear you didn't sell it. I wish you good luck on your search for a new shop, I mean house.

Oh that sucks. Any plans for another 71-73 project?
